Usually when there's a horizontal seam with that type of siding a pieces of "Z" flashing is used to keep water from sitting in the seam. I wouldn't rely on silicon alone. Also paint/seal all the cut edges of the T1-11. Painted OSB is probly "good 'nough" for a while. Pressure treated plywood will hold up better than OSB, or some PVC sheet if ...Plain T-111 is rated for sheathing. Never had a problem with it.
